PostSubject: How Psychic are YOU?   Sat 29 Dec 2007, 11:05 pm

Just wondered how psychic you think you are?
I think we all have it in us to be psychic, some people are just more open to the whole idea.

I am a little bit psychic- I would really like to develop it further.
Sometimes I have just known when someone is going to get in touch with me, predicted accurately when people are going to call me, been thinking of someone just as they are typing an email or text to me, known when I shouldn't buy things (but then gone against it only for the product to not work, or not turn up on time if bought via the internet)- the list is endless.

Have u had similar experiences?

I am not really sure how psychic I would say I am. It's a bit difficult to measure really isn't it. However I wonder what the best ways to develop it are. Bare in mind that I suppose the term psychic covers ESP, telepathy, clairvoyance etc and each may need differant criteria to develop them further.

You're right it is hard to measure psychic ability. I don't know how much is perception or observation or coincidence and how much is true ability. Is it something that either you have or haven't got? Do you need to be open to the concept of it in order to develop psychic ability further?

Is it learned or a natural gift that only some people have been blessed with? Like I have said before I find the whole thing fascinating.

I am surely not a psychic, a seer, a medium or whatever but I had the following episode which has been puzzling me.
One of my dogs was very, very ill and undergoing therapy at my trusted veterinarian. I left him with my parents with instructions to bring him to have his therapy later in the day, went home, picked up my motorcycle and headed for a place I had to go.
After a few miles the bike started to sputter so I phoned I would be late and went home to pick up the car. Of course I took a detour to see how my dog was doing.
He was dying and there was nothing more to be done so I stayed with him until the end and then gave him a decent burial.
Later that night I couldn't sleep so I set to see what was wrong with the bike expecting the worse (I was not in the best frame of mind).
Surprisingly the problem was just a loose battery terminal.
I have always assumed my dog called me back to bid the final farewell or so I wanted to believe.
I was particulary attached to that particular dog so I have always wanted to believe there was something "magical" about this episode.

Part of the EMF and EIF ghost theory is that only about 15-20% of the population would react to to them. Do you think these would be the same people who display some kinds psychic ability? Maybe there is a paranormal personality of some kind and a lot of these experiences are linked.

I would guess so Ian. However I think that some people are more open to the idea of paranormal activity than others. Probably those who have a more psychic inkling. It must be harder for those who have little or no psychic ability?

Would a sceptic see a ghost? Would they instead put it down to something else entirely, find a rational explanation?

Are you more likely to see things if you believe? Are you more likely to believe if you see?

Truth be told I am unsure. Is the ability to see or experience something a biological condition or a state of mind?

Another question, can things like clairvoyance be inherited, is it genetic?

I've had the thing when I was thinking about someone and then they called me. But I don't know if that really qualifies as anything more than coincedence.

Mauro's tale is interesting. Do you think powers of psychicness (for want of the proper term) may be more strong or only present near death? And is it possible that one can interact with the world aswell a living beings through the psychic skill?
Am I making sense?

Love the dp mogg-y.

Not sure about this Tris but you often find tales of people being contacted by a loved one at the point of death. I remember the telephone ringing late one evening and my father answering it from his bedroom. My brothers and I were downstairs, being nosy we went to the bottom of the stairs but could hear nothing. One of my brothers turned to me and said he could see our grandad's face at the top of the stairs. The telephone call ended and our father came out of his room to tell us our grandad had just died.

One of the major ghost theories relies upon some sort of energy being released or imprinted with the soul at time of death. No one has ever identified this energy or come up with a way of proving it is there or measuring it, but I wonder if it might have some baring in psychic ability being stronger at times of death......if of course it is.

cheers Hello, everyone. I am new to this forum. Found it completely by accident, if there is such a thing!
I was drawn to this thread, as I have had interesting experiences with this.

Not sure if anyone has heard of Mia Dolan? I was first introduced to her world by reading her autobiography 'The Gift'. A very sad, and heartening journey. Her 2nd book was about her believing, then committing herself to train a total sceptic into becomming psychic. Mia believes we have all got the ability to do this. But like we all have the abaility to draw, some may draw stick people, others may draw completely recognisable portraits. For any of those who haven't read the book, she was very successful, although her subject decided to go down the healing route instead.

At the end of her book, her journey was taking her towards psychic schools, one of which I attended a few months back. Talk of amazing!

I went from just having a huge interest in the subject to being able to see aura's in colour, and I was even able to see/feel information on fellow classmates when practising readings.

It's now all down to practice, practice, practice. Easier said than done! The hardest thing for me is to go into the zone. With 2 little ones, bed time is the only option. Has anyone tried doing this with a snoring hubby besides them! Rolling Eyes At least I know I can do it, and I try to look at aura's daily, which I love.

That's really interesting Minklemoo. I liked your idea about us all having the ability to draw, I am definately of the "what's that?" school of art, maybe if I practice eventually people will be able to hold my drawings the right way up without prompting eh?!

I would like to develop my psychic ability further, at the moment its a bit hit and miss.

Don't know whether this is relevant or not (it could be some kind of psychic ability or it could I guess be simply madness lol) but sometimes when I meet people I get a "warm" feeling and feel drawn to them and other people make me feel cold, or shiver or almost repel me. Question I would love to be able to see auras.

How do you get into the zone? (especially with a snoring hubby present?)

Look forward to hearing from you soon and welcome to the forum Smile

Whatever psychic ability actually is, it seems practice helps it to develop. I've found that after years of hanging around in haunted locations, I'm able to "pick up" apparently psychic information a lot more. Whether this is just imagination, suggestibility on my part, some weird connection with a location, telepathy with others present who know the information, or good old fashioned medium skills I don't know. I'd like to think that I'm tuning into some wavelength of the collective conscious or communicating with the "energy" at a location, but there's hardly evidence to provide a watertight theory on this. Still, it's a really enjoyable element of being at a haunted location and just going along with the experience seems to help a lot.

I've also had a strange experience where I was able to give a friend rather random details (such as hairstyle, hair colour, year of death, location of death) of her grandmother. It seems unlikely this info would have cropped up in conversation, especially since I hadn't know the person that long, yet according to her it was entirely accurate. I make no claims for this being some sort of medium experience in the Spiritualist mode, but it was very interesting nonetheless.

Hello Minklemoo, nice to have you on the forum. I've quoted you above talking about the zone. I take you mean getting into a relaxed state of mind. At the psychic school you attended did they give any tips or instructions how to get into this 'zone'?

When I was younger I was far more in tune with 'other levels' than I am now. I was a very analytical child, eager to find rational explanations for seeing ghosts or whatever they were, (mainly because i didn't want to believe they were real - that would have been too scary!) but there were some situations where i had to believe the evidence of my own eyes.

Between the ages of six and nine, I saw people who physically could not have been there, (including but not limited to, a pair of children in old fashioned night dresses in my bedroom, a man with smoke curling round his feet vanish in the middle of a beach, and my dad's dead black cat still walking around the house checking up on us). After I got a bit older I stopped seeing things but began to experience physical occurences (which I believe now to be poltergeist activity caused by the onset of puberty and teenage angst tongue ).

When I was about 13 I was sitting at the computer in my living room. There was nobody else in the house. I was minding my own business, messing around on the internet, when I was suddenly PUSHED off the chair by something against the small of my back. I got up, obviously very scared but mostly angry, and shouted at whoever did it to "F*** off!" lol. Probably not the most respectful thing to do, but pushing me wasn't respectful either!

A couple of months later, I was alone in the house again, waiting for my dad to come over with parts for the computer or something. I watched out of the window as he drove up the road and parked, then i turned to go and answer the door as he'd started to get out of the car. As I turned I thought, "he'll ring the bell in a minute". As i thought this, the doorbell rang, and kept ringing (my doorbell was hard to press, and often got stuck continuously ringing until you pulled the button out again) so I bounded down the stairs, opened the door and, without looking to see who was there, pulled the button out to stop the ringing. Only then did I look up, to see my dad... just crossing the road towards me. He hadn't got to the door yet! There was no wind, not that it could have set off the doorbell, and nobody else in the road at the time. I believe the doorbell ringing had unconciously been set off by either me or my dad (a rather psychic man).

When I was 15, i was lying in bed (very awake) when I heard a loud banging start on the opposite wall - adjoining to my neighbours house. This just annoyed me, until the banging moved onto the wall next to it... Coming from inside my inbuilt wardrobe. A trick of sound? I thought so until the banging moved onto the wall next to me, sounding as if was coming from the bathroom next to my room! It seemed to be moving round my room wall by wall. Now I got quite scared - I was even more scared when the banging moved onto the next wall - banging against my window! I'm afraid to say i hid under my covers until it stopped. This all happened in a very short space of time, thirty seconds to a minute at the most, but it was one of the intriguing events I've experienced. Once again, I'm thinking, poltergeist activity.

I don't think I've experienced anything paranormal since then. I'm 17 now and I've found that as i've got older, I've become more sociable and less psychic. I believe that as my mind has become more concerned with school, friends, parties etc, it becomes less open to anything unusual. I can still put myself in a receptive state (for when i do tarot or divination) but it takes a lot longer than it used to.

I've heard theories that young children are more open to psychic and paranormal occurences because they are less wrapped up in day to day routine, stress and the hassle of work, family, bills etc than adults are. Do you guys think that's true? (Possibly also because, if you believe in reincarnation, they've just come from a different plane, as it were, so they're naturally receptive to things of that nature. I've been told that when I was first learning to speak, before i had any concept of numbers, I insisted on calling 5p's "sixes", even when corrected. A memory of sixpences from a past life? Who knows)

Apologies for the length of this post! I hope you've found it interesting Smile
