| The thing that sets the Grey Man apart from other Yeti stories is that the Grey Man seems to possess some sort of intellect at least on the level of ourselves (I'm not assuming Yeti are not as intelligent as us, it's just the Grey man, from reports, seems to display human-esque characteristics at times). For one thing, The Grey Man seems to delight in terrorising walkers, and ghostly music and laughter is supposed to be heard. I think there have even been tales of a huge shadowy figure with a "lum hat"... Apes don't generally wear tophats. I would say that the Grey Man exhibits more supernatural qualities than cryptozoological.
As for the article. It's excellent! One thing I would like to bring to mind though, is to relate the Big Grey man to another mountain-dwelling nastie: A particular one-eyed Fachan that is reported to inhabit Glen Etive. Also, I believe that thinner air can induce halucinations, as far as my recollection serves me. I prefer the big nasty beastie theory though. As with the Fachan!

| I personally favour either the supernatural or the psychological explanation.
Could be yet another entity roaming the Highlands or could be some kind of reaction to the particular conditions of the Ben Macdhui (isolation, climate etc).
While I am convinced of the existence (at least until the '60s) of real hominds around the world I cannot accept that most of these cases can be explained with "flesh and bones" creatures.
More on the subjest later: I come from a very fatigiung period and I am trying to catch up both with the forum and some sleep!

| This month's BBC Wildlife has an article abotu the Yeti. While it's not exactly The Big Grey Man, It's related.

| I'll have to buy BBC Wildlife to check that out.
One thing I couldn't find when researching the article was an older tradition about a Grey Man, which is why I think it's more likely a modern phenomena.
On the subject of the Cairngorms as an unspoiled landscape, a human waste disposal box has recently been put into place due to problems with people taking a crap in snow holes. Obviously when this melts (the snow not the crap  ) it causes an unsightly and smelly problem. Unless its the Yeti. Perhaps a size and content study should be carried out.  |

That's a pity, I had just invented the Mysteriousbritain Inflatable Toilet Seat for when those snow holes are just too cold .
