PostSubject: What Films Have You Recently Watched?   Sun 28 Oct 2007, 10:16 am

I'm not well known for having a great taste in films, but I have recently watched a Japanese movie called Battle Royale. Set in a society on the verge of collapse the government decide that the only way to get respect from the youths is to randomly select a class and force them to kill each other on a deserted island over the space of three days. It was very violent but almost comically so. I was not sure whether it would be good or bad....but I kind of liked it.

What are you guys watching?

I've got the sequel, it's not as tongue in cheek as the first, takes itself very seriously. In the film, Japan is the victim of a 9/11 style terrorist attack, and a group of students are coerced into attacking a terrorist group's hideout on a deserted island and kill the leader.

It's okay, but I prefer the first film.

Name that film:

'If Butch goes to Indo-China, I want a nigger hiding in a bowl of rice ready to pop a cap in his ass.'

Yep, it is.

Last film I watched was Hallowe'en, last night. Picked it up in town at the weekend. I've got Pumpkinhead sitting waiting to be watched (for the first time in like 10 years!). Think before that was the Evil Deads. Twisted Evil

I haven't seen Battle Royale in a few years now, but it was a superb film! Been meaning to pick up the original book (not the manga) and give that a go. Tried reading the book of Ringu after seeing the film, but I couldn'seem to get past the first or second chapter before I got a little bored Laughing Might try and give it another go.

The only two films I have seen recently are two reruns: the first Hellraiser movie and Ed Wood.
Love the Cenobytes, they truly give away an impression of immense otherwordly evil.
To think that Clive Barker was able to accomplish such a feat on less what a major Hollywood production spends on catering really makes you think...
I have always loved these low-budget masterpieces: they really show that when you have genius (Peter Jackson, David Lynch etc) sitting behind the camera big money doesn't matter...
Ed Wood is probably the best Tim Burton movie. It's a fan movie made for weirdos by Captain Weirdo himself. It has a superb cast giving a tremendous performance. It's still one of my favorites.

Mauro, I've seen bits of Ed Wood, and from what I remember it was really quite wacky as wacky could only be done by Mr Burton. Funny, I've got Plan 9 from Outer Space sitting in the house here to be seen... along with The Crawling Eye.

Good... bad... I'm the guy with the gun! Laughing Think my fave has to be ED2, but Army of Darkness is cinematic magic. The quotes alone are worth the price of the DVD... shame, seeing as it's out of production now, for some reason. They're maybe planning some super deluxe limited edition collector's unlimited super Boomstick edition or something, who knows?

I've thought about buying the Book of the Dead edition, for all the awesome extras that come with it. In the US, you get BOTD edition for Evil Dead 2 as well!

Is it good? I actually thought hte trailer looked not too bad.

Last film I saw at pictures was Cloverfield. Really enjoyed it despite my reservations about the way it is shot.

Outside of the cinema, the last movie I watched was the Terminator. You can't beat the classics!

In Rambo IV they seem to spend a lot of time getting you to dislike the Burmese military so you don't really mind Rambo going in and killing a few hundred. The killing is quite graphic though Exclamation

Hmm. Rambo, once every Neo-Con's action hero of choice, he seems to have shifted to the left a little; hitherto the scourge of scruffy leftist militants, he's now joined forces with them to fight military juntas.

In Rambo V we'll see him assist hairy Cubans to thwart Bay of Pigs Invasion Part 2. :-)

One of the best films i've watched recently was Fixing the Shadow (UK name is Beyond the Law). Its based on the true story of an FBI agent who infiltrates a biker gang. Well worth a watch for any of you bikers out there.

I aslo watched Eragon......nice scenery....

Talking of bike gangs did you see this cctv: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/7268653.stm hilarious - I think they will think twice about robbing a pub with bikes outside. I especially like the big hairy wielding a chair.
