From what I understand Spirit Guides aid the psychic make contact with the spirit realm.
How do you communicate with your guide?

Do all mediums do it the same way?

Do all mediums have a spirit guide?

How come so many are North American Indians and did psychics have Indian guides before America was found?

How come they can communicate with spirits from ancient times without any apparent language difficulties?

i believe we all have varied spirit guides, each for a different purpose.
communication with guides can be achived via meditation, spiritually, visually, minds eye, audible, this can vary with peerson to person,so no not all mediums will follow the same route as another when it comes to guides
although it is said to be common to have native guides, not all are,the language barrier i believe is suited to your own.

I must admit I have always thought that everyone has a spirit guide, some people choose to work with their spirit guides and others don't. I don't think that it is something that only psychics have.

I suppose it should be noted that Shamanic traditions have animal spirit guides and this isn't just a spiritualist phenomena. The use of spirit guides has been around for centuries.

Could we not view spirit guides as a way the human mind interprets and communicates with "psychic" energy?

I'm certainly no cynic when it comes to psychic experience, but I do believe we as humans inadvertantly filter and adapt information on this psychic level, and that spirit guides may simply be one way of doing this.

That's not to say that working with spirit guides isn't productive, but rather that it may simply be our own cultural interpretation.

This may be going a bit off track here but Matt mentioned cultural interpretation above and it got me thinking about other cultures. Psychic ability must be the same throughout the human race (well I assume it is), so how do other cultures treat it? Do they have guides? Do they interpret things differantly? Does anyone know of any foriegn psychics that have wrote about their approaches?
