I read Mothman prophecies again by John Keel - always worth a read - and noted his intrigue at the increasing coincidences once he started to research paranormal events - similar names and dates cropped up, and strange events had a habit of happening in multiples.

I read Charles Fort's Wild Talents - coincidences of fires in houses, deaths of animals and missing people - and in the news similar events happen. Many coincidences can occur and patterns seen in random events - Has anyone here had such coincidences happen, be it through investigation or during the everyday?

I think it's mostly the fact that if something happens that affects us, we're more sensitive to it than normal so it seems that the number of events increases when in fact we're only paying more attention.

For example, if you buy a new car then you will notice that loads of people out there are driving the same car as you, but you never noticed that before because you weren't paying attention. The same goes if you worry about something, even if it's something minor - suddenly you'll see references to it all over the place. It's all in the mind.

This is actually very ture! Your mind really does become more sensitive to events.

the mundane may gain more importance (a pregnant wife and I am noticing an increase in babies in prams), but of unusual events - one fall of frogs is unusual enough but to then have a few more is even stranger, as if the 'trickster' thinks that we may miss one unusual event or discount it as foaflore, so we get multiple events so we have to take note, if not be able to explain them.

Psychologist Carl Gustav Jung and physics theoretical genius, Wolfgang Pauli, published a study together in 1952 called "Synchronicity- An Acausal Connecting Principle". Jung, as usual, used the paper to push his theory of a collective mind, subconscious or whatever you like to call it, but the idea is fascinating nonetheless.
