Wish Bone

Just wondered if anyone else done this....after you have cooked your chicken....do you retrieve the wish bone....dry it out....then make a wish with it?....

We used to do that as kids. If I remember correctly, you each hold one side with your pinky then break. The person who gets the big piece "wins" and gets to make a wish.

Yeah thats right Urisk well....we still do it...

I must admit I have not done that since I was a kid either. I wonder where the tradition came from?

I don't know Ian where it comes from....there must still be that kid in me....Ha ha ha!!!

When I first saw this thread, I thought you meant the kids' television show called Wishbone. It starred a small dog with a vivid imagination. He starred in a variety of roles in literary classics, with narration from Wishbone of the story and his actions. Imagine a Jack Russell terrier playing Mr. Darcy and you get the idea.

I was told by a folklore professor (mind you, she was several sandwiches short of a picnic, so take this with a huge grain of salt and some extra on the side) that the tradition had to do with breaking physical objects to release energy.

Mmmm That's very interest Wombat....never heard that before, nor did I know where the wishbone pulling came from
